Leavers’ Assembly

Having just returned from the Y6 Leavers’ Assembly I felt compelled to become a keyboard warrior… of the more positive kind!  In all my more than 20 years of working in schools, I have never seen a better Leavers’ Assembly.  The time staff had clearly put into rehearsing with the children, after such a fabulous play as well, was just brilliant.  And the powerpoints must have taken so much time to put together, along with great care and attention to detail.  The love and great relationships seen at the end while the Leavers’ Books were given out was a pretty special thing to witness too.

Year 6 Show

What a wonderful show, a true West End spectacular.  It was evident how much work you put into it.  The children clearly enjoyed acting, singing and dancing.  What an ending to their school life at Western.  A huge thank you to all the staff for your hard work.

Year 5/6 Celebration – Space

I am just emailing to say how glad I am that I managed to take two hours out of work to attend the Year 5/6 performance last week.  Even having been a Physics Teacher for 4 years, the children taught me things that I didn’t know about space through their amazing facts and projects.

The cross curricular blending of a number of disciplines was fantastic – debating and poetry along with science. I couldn’t believe how confident the children were reciting their beautiful poems – a huge well done to all involved.

Year 3/4 Indian Art Gallery

Fabulous display of art work, everybody has done really well.  I now have two great paintings to put on my wall.

Year 5/6 History Project Exhibition

Thank you very much for inviting us in to see the children’s work today.  I appreciated the chance to see the children’s individual pieces of work which was a change from other recent exhibitions which have been showcases of group projects. Both are important and valuable of course but today it was lovely to see what the children had produced by themselves and each had the chance to shine.  Thanks also for giving parents the chance to come in before and after school.  For me personally this offered more flexibility and because there was lots of space to see all the work around the classroom without the distraction of crowds of other parents!

General

As a parent I admire the amazing advance in my child’s knowledge and skills after she started school in Western Primary.  I can’t value in words the hard work by all the teaching staff in school as well as the wisely organised curriculum that contributed to my daughter’s successful education here.

Year 3/4 – We’ll Meet Again

Amazing to see such confidence in all the children.  They are a credit to the school and | am really impressed.  Great teaching and amazing to get so many children to do such a lot. Well done to all.

Take the Plunge Show KS1

Thank you for an amazing under the sea experience this afternoon. To get about 120 children to all take a turn on the stage, to sing, dance, swim or speak with such confidence in front of so many parents was fantastic. The children and staff should all be very proud of their efforts. I'm sure you'll enjoy moving into new challenges at school, but there will no doubt be many more informal renditions of "I'm a jellyfish..."!

We absolutely loved the performance yesterday. Well done to everyone involved. The children have obviously enjoyed every minute. The costumes were so creative! All the facts that they have learned were in the play so they will remember them forever. What a great way to learn! This is a typical example of how motivational Western School is for our children's education.

General

Mrs Smith, the words “thank you” could never entirely convey how grateful our family is to be a part of this school community.  Western is such an amazing school, and know this is in large part to your devotion and leadership.  Leaving Harrogate is so sad for our family; but we know our children have had the best education and experience at Western Primary. Thank you for all that you do!

Key Stage 1 Show ‘The World is your Oyster’

The Show was absolutely fantastic. A super representation of all the children have learned over the past term.  The children obviously have loved the ‘world’ subject and thoroughly enjoyed being part of the show.  A very well done to all the teachers and children.

Foundation Stage

Western Nursery offers lots of play initiated learning and fun.  Using the resources in the local area the children enjoy their day and all activities.

Absolutely lovely staff who do their upmost to ensure my child has a fun packed day.

Dedicated staff, community atmosphere and children have fun and learn.  Simply brilliant!

Friendly, well run, fun.

All the staff are fantastic. Mrs Staines is so thoughtful and goes above and beyond.

Mrs Magill is a lovely teacher.

I cannot put in to words how thankful we are to have had Mrs Staines teach our son. She is so kind and thoughtful and cares for the children as if they were her own. She notices if any children need help and engages to action this early in. She is always thinking about the children's interests and helping them learn by applying this. She uses her own time all the time to help children. We were so touched when she made writing Aids for our son, clearly in her own time and even went to his nursery during her school holidays to try to coordinate his learning. She is amazing.

Inclusion Team

There is no other greater source of inspiration and motivation than to walk into school every morning and be greeted by smiles of friendly and supportive team members like you all. I thank God for helping me and my family meet such wonderful people like you all. You have been a great support, motivation and guides for our son and our family. When I felt desperate you were a shoulder of support. You all have given me hope, strength and courage in my life. We will never forget you.  (Parent of SEN child with EAL).

Toddler Group

I just wanted to say thank you for facilitating such a warm, friendly and fun toddler group. It has played an enormous part in us feeling welcome in our new home having only recently moved to Harrogate. We’ve made friends and achieved a sense of belonging in the community. I never thought that would happen so quickly.  We also feel really positive about Western and our child’s future there – so you’ve done a good job! See you in the new term!

SEND/Inclusion Team

We appreciate all the help the school are giving our daughter and she does seem to be improving. We are doing a lot at home with her as well (in bite size pieces). Every evening she reads and does one other activity (e.g. spellings or maths usually). She has just realised that she's behind the other children and this hit her in the last few weeks and we have had a lot of tears particularly about why she struggles so much with reading. We have explained that everyone can't be brilliant at everything and there's loads she is brilliant at! She's also working with a tutor once a week who specialises in SEN to get her confidence up (who also tells us that Western is brilliant at SEN and we agree)! If there is anything else at home you feel we should be doing with her we are more than happy to try it so please let us know
