Curriculum Implementation
By knowing their children well, teachers devise lessons that are engaging, have challenging vocabulary and develop core skills.
Key knowledge is identified for each phase and staff ensure that previous learning is revisited and built upon. Quizzing is an integral part of this process at Western, with this high challenge, low threat and research-evidenced approach being highly effective for our children. Staff plan well sequenced lessons building on prior learning and use their own assessments and quizzing information to strengthen the children’s key knowledge, identify gaps and address them quickly and effectively. Lessons are sequenced to layer the skills and knowledge the children need with clearly defined end points before they move on to their next step. Children’s retention of knowledge is evaluated and monitored to ensure that learning is embedded. Wherever possible, links are made to previous learning to help children make connections.
