Religion and World Views Intent

Our intention is for the children throughout the school to engage in a systematic enquiry, through our school curriculum, into the significant human questions raised by principle religions, key beliefs and world views.

The children will appreciate and appraise a variety of responses to these questions as well as developing responses of their own.

Our main focus will be for the children to understand the expression of beliefs and cultural practices in order to encourage tolerance and mutual respect within our local and global communities.

Religion and World Views Learning Journey

R.E Journey

Inspiring ambitious and curious learners

At the start of a new Religion and World Views focus, children will be introduced to a provoking, challenging question and their learning each week will enable them to organise their own thoughts, ideas, values and identities. An example question would be ‘What makes some places sacred?’

Using our Principles of Teaching and Learning, children are encouraged to value their beliefs and those of others. Experiences are shared to enable our children to have a rich understanding to help drive their learning forward. Each lesson there is a recap on previous learning which allows the children to consolidate their knowledge. Quizzing takes place throughout the year which identifies areas for development.

Vocabulary

The children will learn key vocabulary linked to different religious beliefs. This enables them to identify, explain, investigate and analyse beliefs and practices whilst recognising the diversity which exists within local and global communities.

At Western, we promote respect and open mindedness towards others with different faiths and beliefs. We encourage our children to develop their sense of identity and belonging through self awareness and reflection preparing them to become citizens of the world.

Exceptional Learning

High expectations are evident throughout the curriculum at Western. The lessons are often taught through stories, drama and art, ensuring the children are engaged through different approaches. The use of iPads has enhanced the children’s learning, enabling them to evidence their response to the question creatively.

At Western we give the children the opportunity to experience different places of worship to help them understand how different individuals and communities live together respectfully for the wellbeing of all.
